Definitely something to think about. But not sure if the distinction is that clear cut.
I see the difference being between services and systems. Google to date has built and launched cloud based services (Gmail, Docs, etc) with very basic interoperability. Each service is independent.
Apple seems to believe in a system that works as one. They have 9 apps that run on iCloud, each using iCloud is a similar way but with unique benefits. Maybe it's just positioning but this systems approach is why Apple's products feel like they "just work" while everything else feels like a kludge.
